Partner Notification Timeline
If you get diagnosed with… | …tell the following sex partners: |

CHLAMYDIA | Last 6 months (or last partner if longer). If symptomatic male with urethral symptoms: 4 weeks |
GONORRHEA | Symptomatic male with urethral symptoms: 2 weeks. All others: 3 months |
HIV | From likely date of acquisition (often from last negative HIV test) – clinic-led assessment |
SYPHILIS | Primary: 3 months | Secondary: 6 months | Early latent: up to 12 months (may extend to 2 years) |
HEPATITIS A | 2 weeks before symptoms to 1 week after (infectious period) |
HEPATITIS B | Depends on phase – clinician-led assessment based on infectious period |
HERPES | No formal look-back period. Testing only recommended when lesions present |
SCABIES | Household and close/sexual contacts from last 6 weeks |

Repeat Testing: If symptoms persist, repeat testing may be needed (especially for trichomoniasis).
Syphilis: Some services offer early testing at 4 weeks with repeat at 12 weeks.
