About the Flu Vaccine

The influenza (flu) vaccine is your best protection against seasonal flu. Each year, the vaccine is updated to protect against the most common strains of flu virus expected to circulate during the upcoming season.

Flu is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can lead to serious complications, especially in vulnerable groups. The vaccine significantly reduces your risk of catching flu and helps prevent the spread to others in your community.

✓ Suitable for All Ages

Our flu vaccine is appropriate for children, adults, and elderly patients.

💉 Injectable Form

Administered as a quick and simple injection, typically in the upper arm.

🛡️ Effective Protection

Provides protection against the most common flu strains for the season.

Why Get Vaccinated?

  • Reduces your risk of flu illness by 40-60% when the vaccine matches circulating strains
  • Protects vulnerable family members and colleagues through reduced transmission
  • Can reduce the severity of illness if you do catch flu
  • Helps prevent flu-related complications such as pneumonia
  • Reduces pressure on healthcare services during winter months
  • Allows you to maintain your normal activities without disruption from illness

⚠️ Important: Who Should Not Receive This Vaccine

Do not receive this vaccine if you have:

  • A history of severe allergic reaction to the flu vaccine or any of its components
  • A history of severe egg allergy (the vaccine is produced using eggs)

If you have any concerns about allergies or your suitability for vaccination, please contact us before booking or discuss with the healthcare professional at your appointment.

What to Expect

The Vaccination Process

The flu vaccine is a quick and straightforward procedure. The injection is typically given in the upper arm muscle and takes only a few seconds to administer. Most people experience minimal discomfort.

Common Side Effects

Side effects are usually mild and resolve within a few days. These may include:

  • Soreness, redness or slight swelling at the injection site
  • Mild fever or feeling slightly unwell
  • Muscle aches
  • Headache

Serious side effects are very rare. The vaccine cannot give you flu as it does not contain live virus.

When You’re Protected

It takes approximately two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop full protection against flu. It’s best to get vaccinated before flu starts circulating widely in the community.

Health Questionnaire Required

Before your appointment, you must complete a health questionnaire. This is essential to ensure the vaccine is safe and suitable for you.

The questionnaire will be emailed to you with your booking confirmation and is available to complete after booking. You can also access it directly here:
