Why might you need the test?
High blood pressure can lead to a number of serious health conditions such as heart failure, stroke, and heart disease so it is important that you get it tested regularly.
Every time your heart beats, it pumps blood under pressure to the rest of your body through your arteries. You need some pressure to keep your blood moving. But if it’s always too high, it puts extra strain on your heart and blood vessels. Other parts of your body, such as your brain and your kidneys may also be affected by high blood pressure.
Blood pressure changes continually however, when resting a healthy person’s blood pressure usually falls within a certain range.
Blood pressure is measured at two points.
- The highest level (systolic). This is when your heart muscle contracts and pumps blood out through the arteries.
- The lowest level (diastolic). This is when your heart relaxes between beats and fills with blood.
Symptoms of high blood pressure
Most people with high blood pressure don’t have any symptoms and on most occasions aren’t aware of their condition. That’s why regular tests are recommended. For most people with high blood pressure, there’s no obvious cause. This is called primary hypertension. Some of the reasons why you would be an increased risk:
- your age (increase risk as you get older)
- hereditary condition
- being overweight
- eating too much salt or drinking too much alcohol
- lack of exercise
- anxiety and stress
- some medicines and illegal substances
High blood pressure can also be linked to an underlying medical issue. This is called secondary hypertension. Causes include:
- pregnancy
- kidney disease
- underactive or overactive thyroid

So glad i found this place. I needed to check my kidneys health urgently and no chance thorugh NHS. Professional personnel, proactive in suggesting the right kind of tests without pushing for unnecessary ones, and received results within 48hrs, sent to my email.
