These are the core methods our labs use to get you accurate results.

PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction): Think of this as a genetic photocopier. It finds a tiny piece of an infection’s DNA or RNA and copies it millions of times until it’s easy to detect. It’s the highly accurate and sensitive technology behind most modern urine and swab tests.

NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Test): This is the family of advanced tests that includes PCR. If you see NAAT, just think “a highly sensitive lab test that looks for a germ’s genetic code.”

Serology (Blood Tests): These tests check your blood for two things: antibodies, which are proteins your immune system makes to fight an infection, and antigens, which are parts of the germ itself. They can tell us about current or past infections like HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis.

Qualitative vs. Quantitative:
Qualitative: A simple “Yes/No” answer. The test result will be “Detected” or “Not Detected.”
Quantitative: Measures the amount of a virus in your system, often called a “viral load.” This is used to monitor conditions like HIV or Hepatitis.
